The Impact of Salary on Job Satisfaction and Employee Retention

Salary matters.
It determines my future and quality of life.
I no longer look for "worthwhile" experiences or "family oriented" atmospheres.
This is work, not family.
And now that I'm a seasoned educator I am understanding that more each day.
The last two weeks I interviewed and visited two perspective employers and both were rather transparent in what their salary goals were for the positions offered.
Both are educational institutions striving to make positive change on the youth they serve, which of course, is admiral.
Their approach to attracting talent however, was very different.
One, being a nonprofit tried to sell me on the free meals, laid back work environment and casual dress code .
In this day and age, for me, those are not appealing selling points.
Pay me well -I will make my own lunch
Laid back work environment- As a black woman, this has never existed for me anyway. It's too late to sell it to me now.
Casual dress code-I had it for 11 years when I worked remotely. I've gotten my fill.
However, the other institution had a printed pay salary outlining all of the logistics of their compensation. The Human Resources administrator also sat with me for almost 20 minutes going over the information . I felt that the presentation and time spent demonstrated their commitment to transparency and diplomacy in the workplace.
They told me that their aim is to draw top tier talent and they understand there is a cost that comes with that. And because of this they attempt to offer competitive salaries with organizations in that community.
THEY get it!
Thank you for instilling in me that there still are companies that understand the reality of the times we live and the true needs of people that are trying to make ends meet.
