AH! Summertime!

Here I am once again, reflecting on the early days of summer break. I am still within the first two weeks of school closing, so it's all pretty fresh; the realization that for at least another month, I am free to live a life of some degree of leisure.

Well, at least once July 12th hits. I'm currently working at Bucknell University in a three-week collegiate experience where I supervise seven student advisors as they manage their respective wings housing at least 15-20 students. I am housed in a residence hall during this experience, as well as being subject to the joys of eating in a college cafeteria, sleeping in a twin bed, and walking down the hallway to use the shower or restroom.

Hey! I don't have to cook, which is a nice change of pace.

It was different when I was experiencing this for the first time at 18 when I went away to attend Michigan State. Sleeping in a semi-comfortable bed, sharing a room with a complete stranger, and staying up late nights to study and share secrets with friends; it was all novelty.

Not so much now. Over the years, I have grown to love and appreciate my own cooking, the softness of my queen-sized bed, going to bed by 9:30pm, and the peace and quiet that solitude brings.

However, this experience has allowed me to get back in touch with who I used to be many moons ago; a time to be free-spirited, young, and finding purpose in a dorm community of other like-minded folks. It's all been nostalgic in a way.

Not a bad way to spend the summer—for now.
